ABOUT

Dr. Laura Boyd Farmer, Ph.D. is a licensed professional counselor, scholar, educator, speaker, and consultant. She provides professional counseling services to individuals, couples/partners, and groups in Roanoke, VA. In addition to counseling, Dr. Farmer is a certified Qoya dance and movement instructor providing classes, workshops, and creative offerings to the community.  She is passionate about facilitating embodied healing experiences through Qoya-based movement, expressive arts, mindfulness, and experiential practices.

Dr. Farmer’s research and scholarship focuses on affirmative counseling with LGBTGEQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, gender expansive, queer/questioning) youth and adults. In 2015, she founded a peer-based support group for youth called Youth SAGA (Sexuality And Gender Alliance) of Roanoke, supported by the Roanoke Diversity Center. She is an advocate for helping youth find their voices, strengthen self worth, and live authentic and fulfilling lives.
